It is crying out for a better sensor, wider lens and for Canon to move the SD card slot back out from the battery compartment, but I'd still rather take it out shooting than the Sony, Olympus or Fuji alternatives. The output (with fringing and noise issues) simply isn't good enough to earn the S5 IS an unqualified 'Highly Recommended' rating, but it's an easy 'Recommended'.

The real problem that the Olympus faces is not so much that it has any major failings, but that it's not competitive on price with the Fuji (particularly in some markets), and it's not quite as well thought out or focused as the Panasonic. Ultimately, it's a perfectly capable camera with a very nice body and a comprehensive feature set. The problem is, so are its rivals. Another cautious, rather than wholehearted, recommendation.

If you understand your specific photographic needs, there are cameras out there that shoot faster, others that have better and more easily accessed manual controls, others that are smaller and more convenient, and those that have shorter but higher quality lenses. But if you want to just take pictures and don't spend too much time pixel-peering it's a lot of camera for the money, and offers very user friendly snap-shooting operation and bright and punchy output. As such it earns a cautious recommendation.

On the other hand if you actually want to use all those photographic features, or have exacting image quality demands, then - like the Olympus SP-550UZ - the H9 really is one compromise too many. And you'd better be prepared to spend a lot of time mastering the interface - and developing the finger and thumb dexterity needed to make the most of all those controls. This is why the H9, for us at least, doesn't quite have what it needs for a wholehearted recommendation.

Så er der ihvertfald noget læsning. Skal selv have nyt inden Marts grundet en ferie i Afrika, og har ikke bestemt mig endnu. Bestemt mig for det ikke bliver spejlrefleks grundet pengene alligevel ikke blive til og få ordenlige linser det næste lange stykke tid, så indtil videre regner jeg med og købe et S5 IS, medmindre jeg lige får læst mig frem til noget bedre.

Jeg har skam læst en masse test. Det er bare ikke altid jeg tror 100% på dem. Det er altid rart at få en anbefaling af en der faktisk ejer og bruger det cam der testes.
Jeg har lige lånt et D70, og hvis jeg syntes det er sjovt at lege med dSLR ender det nok med sådan et.
